The Business Guru is a marketing and business consultancy for Small and Medium Sized Businesses based near Totnes, South Devon and worldwide via the internet. 

I offer real practical business solutions to SMEs looking to expand their businesses by using my many years of Marketing and Award Winning Advertising Experience coupled with the real, hands-on, experience of running several small businesses.

I am a registered business coach with Business West & Grant Thornton who administers the government's Business Growth Service that incorporates the Growth Accelerator Scheme in the South West of England & London respectively. The scheme is aimed to help small businesses by part-funding access to best business advice in order to stimulate ambitious business growth.

Through my experience, I can quickly understand the issues affecting a business. I know the marketing tools available to help attract new customers, improve profitability and have the experience and know-how to implement them. I like to fully immerse myself to become part of the business I am coaching, in order to work closely with the directors of the business to help it succeed. 
In my time I have worked with some of the best creative minds in the country, and, when coupled with the joys, and scars!, of running my own business for over 14 years, I have the real life experience to find the right insights to help any business succeed.


Current Projects
The New Lion Brewery
October 2014 to present

Through the GrowthAccelerator Scheme, I have worked with the Directors to develop a Business Vision, part of which will included a Skills Analysis to consider their roles and responsibilities going forward. The purpose of this was to make best use of the individual talents experience and skills within the brewery staff and highlight any staff issues that were a barrier for the company to grow.
Working with all the directors, we developed the financial business plan for the future success of the business. I coached the Directors through rebranding taking into consideration the different packaging formats and how best to sell both to the trade and directly to the consumer. I reviewed the current expansion plans and identified the Leadership and Management training needs for senior staff.
I have developed a training programme to help the business to be better run and more likely to achieve their ambitious growth targets identified during the GrowthAccelerator programme. The training programme covers business administration, marketing and sales strategies.

T&S Timber Frame Buildings
October 2014 to present

With the help of GrowthAccelerator funding, I am coaching the Management Team to develop a Marketing Strategy in order to drive new customers into the business and raise awareness of the their specialist field within the construction industry. This included a review of their competition, an analysis of their website & how it performed versus the appropriate search engine terms. We also developed a social media strategy for improved results from Facebook, Google+, Twitter and Linkedin etc. We also helped rebrand their vehicle liveries, sign boards, scaffold signs etc.
Warrior Roofing
November 2014 to present

Warrior Roofing also took advantage of The GrowthAccelerator Scheme. I am working with them to develop a Marketing Strategy to help them build their business to become one of Exeter’s prominent roofing companies.
I have reviewed how the company communicates with its prospective clients right through the consideration process, quotation stage, while the work is on-going and to their after sales care. This includes all of their marketing activity. Their Logo, website, vehicle branding, banners, advertising and use of social media. 

The Huntsman Inn - Ide
September 2014 to present

Through the GrowthAccelerator Scheme, I worked with the owner to develop a robust marketing and communication strategy by researching local, out of area and tourist markets. I reviewed the website and SEO words to ensure maximum advantage for out of area customer attraction.

I coached the business owner through the initial implementation of the strategy and setting up of impact measurement and monitoring.
South Devon Pilates
January 2014 to Present

I coached the owner to set up a new Pilates Business in Torquay, Devon. The brief included finding the premises, designing and refurbishing the building. Writing a business plan for the business. Designing a logo and signs. Building up a customer base, through designing and creating a website, building up a relationship with local key influencers - chiropractors, osteopaths and physiotherapists. 

I put together a programme of communications on a very tight budget to raise awareness of the new studio, which included P.R., online marketing, posters, & door-drops.

The results: The studio is now listed on the first page on google ‘Pilates in Torquay’ and other related searches. The studio is filling up nicely and is ahead of projections based upon the business plan.

South Devon Joinery 
February 2014 to Present

I helped set up a new joinery business in Totnes, Devon. The task included designing and creating a new website for the company. Business generation, through building a relationship with key influencers. This included a mail out to all the local architects and local builders that cover the South Hams area.

The results: It is still early days, however the business is now listed on the first page on google ‘joinery companies in South Devon’ and other related searches. We have been asked to price up various pieces of work for local builders and architects.


The ‘Old School’ Building Company
May 2014 to Present

I was asked to redesign an old, tired, website and to help improve its rank on the search engines.
The results : A slick, well structured, website integrated with the main social media networks that now appears on the first page of google listings ‘Builders in Reigate’.

I put in place a review procedure to monitor the success and ongoing marketing plan. Coaching the business owner on any changes to the initial plan.

Many property development projects including new build and renovation. Experience with design and project management.



Tasks included organising finance, negotiating the purchase of land, designing the property we wanted to build, gaining planning permission for the development. Supervising and Project Managing the construction of 2 new houses from site clearance, ground works, construction of the shell, screeding the floors, building the roofs, 1st fix carpentry electrics and plumbing, insulation, dry lining, plastering, rendering, 2nd fix carpentry electrics and plumbing. The position involved running a team of over 15 executives, working very closely with the marketing departments of large blue chip companies in order to evolve the marketing strategy for each brand.
This was achieved by researching the target audience. Developing the most effective program of communications, in order to stand out from amongst the crowd to ensure we delivered the business requirements.

        I am a keen cricketer and play for my local village team. I am their chief fund raising officer. Since August 2013 – present I have helped organise various events and come up with ideas to raise money for the local cricket club. This includes the village’s first ever Dog Show scheduled for August 17th 2014. This included creating its own website, Twitter and facebook accounts which now have over 700 followers, design posters, creating a brochure, selling advertising space to local businesses! Woof! Woof!

When not playing cricket or spending time with my family and friends you can generally find me on a beach with my surfboard!
